Taking a bold stand at odds with her husband and the Republican Party, former First Lady Melania Trump defends abortion rights in her upcoming memoir, “Melania.”
In a rare public statement on political issues, she challenges the restrictions placed on reproductive freedom, marking a significant departure from the views of her husband, former President and 2024 US Presidential candidate Donald Trump, and the Republican Party.
Her memoir, set for release on Tuesday, highlights her belief in a woman’s autonomy over her body, sparking conversation as the nation heads into a heated election season with Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?” Melania writes, according to The Guardian, outlining her steadfast support for “a woman’s right to choose.” She describes this as a fundamental liberty, asserting that denying women control over their reproductive choices is tantamount to infringing on their individual freedoms.
While her husband continues to promote states’ rights on the issue, having recently reiterated that he would veto any federal abortion ban, Melania’s memoir reveals an unexpected personal stance. During a rally in Uniondale, New York, Donald Trump even promoted her book but admitted that he hadn’t yet read it.
ADVERTISEMENT View this post on InstagramMelania’s support for reproductive rights comes at a critical time as abortion remains a top issue for voters, particularly women.
A spokesperson for the Harris-Walz 2024 campaign, Sarafina Chitika, expressed concern over the stark contrast between Melania’s views and her husband’s policies.
She pointed out that many women in America are currently affected by restrictive abortion laws, which she attributed to Donald Trump’s actions.
Chitika further emphasized that if the former president wins the upcoming election, he is likely to impose a nationwide abortion ban, further limiting women’s access to reproductive healthcare and jeopardizing their rights and well-being.
While her memoir primarily focuses on abortion, she also touches upon other political matters such as immigration, though she hints that she prefers to keep disagreements with her husband on this issue behind closed doors.
